Rhododendron Christmas Cheer

Hardy Hybrid Rhododendron

Great for winter colour

Christmas Cheer starts to flower in late winter with gorgeous pink flowers which gradually age to white. The flowers sit above the evergreen leaves and add welcome colour on dull winter days.

Where?

Best in sheltered position in part shade, ideal towards the middle of a border where it will create a colourful highlight and act as a lovely backdrop to other plants for the rest of the year. A good choice for a large patio container.

How?

An acid loving plant that needs a lime-free soil, or create a raised bed and fill with ericaceous compost specially formulated for acid loving plants. If planting in a container use ericaceous compost. Remove faded flowers to keep tidy.

A low maintenance variety.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. If planting in a bed or border test the soil to establish its pH. If the soil is too alkali it is best to grow your plant in a container. In either case prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig ericaceous compost into the base of the hole, if planting in a container use ericaceous compost to fill the pot. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
