Rhododendron Anna Rose Whitney

Hardy Hybrid Rhododendron

Large, showy pink flowers

An evergreen with olive coloured leaves which are covered in large clusters of reddish-pink trumpet shaped flowers in late spring and early summer.

Best in sheltered position in part shade, ideal towards the back of a border where it will create a colourful spring highlight and act as a lovely backdrop to other plants for the rest of the year.

An acid loving plant that needs a lime-free soil, or create a raised bed and fill with ericaceous compost specially formulated for acid loving plants. Remove faded flowers to keep tidy.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. If planting in a bed or border test the soil to establish its pH. If the soil is too alkali it is best to grow your plant in a container. In either case prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig ericaceous compost into the base of the hole, if planting in a container use ericaceous compost to fill the pot. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
