Azalea Klondyke

Deciduous Azalea

Vigorous variety and long flowering

Wonderful funnel shaped golden-orange flowers emerge from coppery-red buds in late spring. The young leaves are a lovely bronzy-green and turn to copper-red during autumn, before they fall.

Ideal for adding a splash of colour to a border, it suits a formal or informal garden and also looks good in a woodland style setting. Happy in either full sun or part shade.

An acid loving plant that needs a lime-free soil, or create a raised bed and fill with ericaceous compost specially formulated for acid loving plants. Remove faded flowers to keep tidy.

Azalea Klondyke was bred E. de Rothschild.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. If planting in a bed or border test the soil to establish its pH. If the soil is too alkali it is best to grow your plant in a container. In either case prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig ericaceous compost into the base of the hole, if planting in a container use ericaceous compost to fill the pot. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
