Prunus Frilly Frock

Japanese flowering cherry

Perfect for a small garden

A tree for all seasons and perfect for a small space or big container on a patio. Glistening flowers are seen in spring as the new leaves begin to grow. The branches trail downwards and the leaves change to fiery orange and red in autumn before falling for the winter.

Where?

Happy in a sunny or partly shaded spot, away from cold winds. Plants as a focal point in a border or near water where the flowers and later the autumn leaves will be reflected.

How?

Add well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil before planting and stake your tree until the roots are established. If planting in a container use John Innes No 3 potting compost. Feed with a suitable fertiliser each spring.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
