Carex Milk Chocolate

Milk Chocolate Sedge

Tufts of dark purple/brown foliage

A richly coloured variety that slowly forms a dense mound. As the name suggests the leaves are milk chocolate-coloured. In summer plumes of tiny brown flowers emerge. The leaves change colour as they age, softening to brown with orange tints in the autumn.

Grows well in large containers or at the front of a sunny border. Needs protection in very cold winters.

A low maintenance grass that is happy in any well-drained soil. Use a good quality general purpose compost for container growing and raise the pot on 'pot feet' through the winter months to help with drainage.

Otherwise known as Milchoc

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
