Carex buchananii Red Rooster

Leatherleaf sedge

Easy to grow and maintains its colour all year round

A great plant for adding contrast in a mixed border or creating modern looking structured planting schemes. The reddish-brown tufts of grass offer interesting colour and structure particularly when used amongst other green foliage plants. It keeps its colour well all year long and can make a very interesting addition to autumn and winter planted containers.

Where?

Will thrive in full sun and well drained soil.

How?

Easy to grow, needing little specialist attention.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
