French Lavender, 2ltr

PollinatorAward

Lavandula x intermedia Provence

One of the tallest varieties - excellent or cut flowers

Imagine fields of Lavender growing in the South of France - this is where this beautiful plant gets its name. A billowing mass of deep purple flower spikes from summer until autumn above silvery grey mounds which glow beneath the blooms. The flowers are excellent cut and dried where they will release the familiar scent.

Where?

Happiest in full sun and well drained soil. Grow in a container if your soil is wet and place in a sunny spot near a sitting area so that the scent and flowers can be appreciated.

How?

Good drainage is key so dig grit into the planting hole to help if your soil us heavy and wet in winter. Use loam based compost mixed with course grit for containers and provide shelter from cold winds. Trim lightly after flowering to maintain shape.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Position the stake in the hole, on the side of the prevailing wind and drive it into the soil, to a depth of 60cm. The stake should be a third of the height of the tree, when planted. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole close to the stake, with the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Use two tree ties to secure the stem to the stake. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year. Check ties regularly and adjust them as the tree grows.
