Painted Lady Fern

One of the most colourful ferns available

This eye-catching fern has arching triangular shaped leaves - strikingly coloured metallic grey with mint green margins and coral red veins. An easy variety that forms neat lacy mounds.

Where?

It grows best in full or part shaded sheltered spots and this is a great choice for edging a shady border or a woodland path.

How?

It loves any well-drained, moist soil. Water well until established and mulch in spring with garden compost or bark chippings.

This plant is a native of Japan and eastern Asia.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
