Veronica spicata Red Fox

Speedwell

One of the most popular Veronicas

This little plant is packed with flowers continually from early summer onwards. Perfect for the front of border where the bright green leaves and spikes of deep reddish-pink flowers will attract butterflies and create a colourful highlight.

Where?

Happiest in a sunny position, ideal for the front of a border or in a container.

How?

Good in any well-drained soil. Add coarse grit or sand to the planting hole if your soil is heavy and wet in winter. Use a good quality general purpose compost for container growing and raise the pot on 'pot feet' through the winter months to help with drainage. Remove the faded spikes to encourage more. Cut down in autumn to keep tidy in autumn.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
