Verbascum Primrose Path

A compact variety which is very easy to grow

A classic cottage garden plant it makes a low rosette of felty grey-green leaves which give rise to short, multi-branched stems of primrose yellow flowers in summer.

Loves a sunny sheltered position, perfect for a bed, border, rock or gravel garden.

Best in dry conditions and must have a free draining soil. Place some coarse grit or sand in the base of the planting hole if your soil is heavy and wet in winter. Once the flowers fade cut back to encourage more flowers through the summer. Remove any damaged or dying leaves to tidy up the plants.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
