Sedum Carl

GardenAward

Stonecrop

Perfect for growing in a container or pot

Similar to Sedum Autumn Joy but is more compact, with vivid magenta-pink flowers on reddish stems. A delight in late summer when butterflies and bees are drawn like magnets to the flowers.

Where?

Any sunny border, rock or gravel garden. Fabulous partnered with verbenas, coneflowers and ornamental grasses.

How?

This hardy plant enjoys a moist but well-drained, neutral or alkaline soil. The faded flower heads can still be an attractive feature in the winter garden especially if lightly dusted with snow, so delay cutting them back.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
