Polemonium yezoensevar.hidakanum Bressingham Purple Polbress

Jacobu2019s Ladder

Purple foliage and striking blue flowers

The striking purple tinted foliage makes this a much sought after variety. It has light blue, bell-shaped flowers that contrast nicely with the darker leaves, which make a neat mound from which the flowers emerge on short spikes.

Where?

Likes a lightly shaded position, ideal in a bed or a border, and looks fabulous in a woodland garden or container.

How?

Best in a moist, well drained soil. Remove faded flowers to encourage more. Use a good quality potting compost for container growing.

Commonly known as Jacob’s ladder as the leaflets are arranged on the stems like rungs on a ladder.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
