Lupin

Perfect for a smaller garden

A compact and free flowering form of one of our favourite, early summer flowering border flowers. The plants form leafy clumps of divided umbrella leaves in spring. Stout spikes of densely packed pink and white pea flowers rise from the leaves in early summer adding strong, vertical interest to a border. A single plant can produce up to ten flower spikes. If cut back as the flowers fade more blooms may appear in late summer.

Where?

Plant in full sun in beds and borders with other perennials and shrubs. Lovely for informal planting alongside informal areas of long grass.

How?

Well drained, deep fertile soil, preferably neutral or acid. Cut back immediately after flowering to encourage repeat flowering and longer life. Remove any remains of old flower stems and faded foliage in winter.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
