Masses of highly scented flowers produced throughout the summer

This plant will flower and flower through the summer producing plenty of maroon red pin cushion like blooms on wiry stems. Beautiful when planted with grasses for a prairie feel or at the front of a mixed border.

Where?

Happiest in full sun.

How?

Easy to grow in any moist but well drained soil. Add coarse grit or sand to the base of the planting hole if your soil is heavy and wet in winter. Remove faded flowers to encourage more blooms and cut back old growth in spring to tidy the plant.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
