Iris White City

Tall bearded iris

Stunning white flowers produced year after year

A classic bearded iris with large, ice-white blooms with golden beards tipped with white. The sleek, elegant flowers are carried on very tall stems, more than 90cm (3ft) in height, above the grey-green sword shaped leaves in early summer. Buds unfurl in succession prolonging the flowering period. Lovely in a green and white scheme against a backdrop of shining evergreen leaves.

Plant in full sun at the front of beds and borders, in narrow borders along walls or anywhere away from competition with other plants. They need direct sunlight on the rhizomes to flower well.

Grows on any well-drained fertile soil, ideally in neutral conditions. Avoid wet, acid soils. Plant with at least half the rhizome on the soil surface. Cut back flower stems after flowering. Remove dead leaves in winter.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
