Heucherella Alabama Sunrise

Foamy Bells

Perfect for growing in a container or pot

Definitely a plant to brighten your day. A real beauty with ruffled leaves of lime yellow and chartreuse green that age to deeper green as they mature. Each leaf has striking red markings and the picture is completed by the short spikes of creamy white flowers that appear for months from late spring until early autumn.

Where?

Happy at the front of a border in part shade where the leaves will not be damaged by hot summer sun. A great choice for a container in part shade too.

How?

Easy to grow in most garden soils but add coarse grit or sand to the planting hole if your soil is heavy and wet in winter. Use good quality loam based compost for container growing and raise the pot on 'pot feet' through the winter months to help with drainage. Remove faded flower spikes to encourage more blooms right through the summer.

Heucherellas are a cross between Heuchera and Tiarella. They have inherited the showy leaves of Heuchera combined with the longer flowering time of Tiarella - a winning combination.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
