Hemerocallis Summer Wine

Daylily

Ideal for planting at the front of a boarder

A real beauty for a border and so easy to grow. Reddish purple flowers open flat and have a contrasting yellow centre. They are seen during summer on strong stems above handsome clumps of fresh green leaves.

Where?

Happy in the middle of a border in a sunny spot or in part shade.

How?

Best in moist but well drained soil. Enrich the soil with organic matter before planting - home made garden compost or well rotted manure is fine. Remove faded flowers to encourage more through the summer and cut back old leaves in spring when new ones are spotted.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
