Geranium sanguineum Max Frei

Bloody Cranesbill

Ideal for the front of a boarder or a rockery

A carpet of colour when in flower at midsummer. This beautiful Cranesbill is covered in saucer shaped, deep magenta purple blooms above deep green, distinctive leaves. A good choice to cover the ground in a sunny spot.

Where?

This plant loves full sun and well drained soil or can be grown in a large container in a sunny spot.

How?

Place some coarse grit or sand in the base of the planting hole if your soil is heavy and wet in winter. Use a good quality potting compost for container growing and raise the pot on 'pot feet' through the winter months to help with drainage.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
