Freesia Fragrant Sunburst

Freesia

Great for cut flowers

This Freesia is a joy when the sweetly scented flowers burst into bloom, bringing colour to the garden through the summer and into autumn. It will look lovely wherever you choose to plant it and will make particularly good cut flower.

Where?

Happy in sun or a little shade, in a border of container.

How?

Best in a well-drained soil, add coarse grit or sand to the planting hole if your soil is heavy and wet in winter. Use good quality compost for container growing and raise the pot on 'pot feet' through the winter months to help with drainage. Remove faded flower spikes to encourage more blooms right through the summer.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
