Perennial Wallflower

Great for cut flowers

This is a garden classic, and can flower for most of the year. It makes a mound of evergreen leaves, topped with scented purple flowers. Superb as a cut flower and loved by bees and butterflies.

Where?

A great plant for a rock garden, container, or the front of a border in sun or light shade.

How?

Best in a well-drained soil. Place some coarse grit or sand in the base of the planting hole if your soil is heavy and wet in winter. Use a good quality general purpose compost for container growing and raise the pot on 'pot feet' through the winter months to help with drainage.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
