Dianthus Odessa Easy Pink

GardenAward

Pink

Bright pink double flowers that look great in the garden and last well when cut

A neat, compact plant with grey-green foliage, which becomes covered with double, carnation-like flowers through late spring and summer. The deliciously scented flowers have soft pink petals which turn deeper pink towards the centre.

Where?

It loves the sun and is perfect for edging a border, in a rock garden or for a container.

How?

Easy to grow in a well-drained soil, they do especially well in chalky soils. Place some coarse grit or sand in the base of the planting hole if your soil is heavy and wet in winter. Use a good quality potting compost for container growing. Remove faded flowers to encourage re-blooming.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
