Delphinium Dark Blue/Black, 3ltr

Probably the most intense blue of all Delphiniums

A classic cottage garden plant creating a fabulous effect with spires of tightly clustered dark blue flowers which rise above a clump of deeply toothed green leaves from early to mid summer. Each individual flower has a black centre or 'bee' and they look as elegant in a vase as they do in the garden.

Plant at the back of a sunny or lightly shaded, sheltered border and water well.

Delphiniums enjoy fertile, well-drained soil. Enrich the soil with organic matter before planting - home made garden compost or well rotted manure is fine. Support the flower spikes with canes as they grow. Mulch with compost in spring.

Delphiniums are in the buttercup family and the name derives from the Greek for dolphin, referring to the shape of the flowers.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
