Clusters of soft pink flowers held above clumps of dark green leaves

This is an easy to grow evergreen perennial, great for providing year round structure. The glossy green, leathery leaves take on red tints when the winter weather gets really cold. Short spikes of soft pink flowers poke through the leaves in spring. A welcome treat for early bees and pollinating insects.

Where?

Best grown in sun or part shade in a bed or mixed border. With its spreading habit it also makes good groundcover around shrubs.

How?

Happy in any soil. Cut back faded flowers and any tatty leaves to keep tidy. Water well after planting.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
