Anemone hybrida September Charm

Japanese anemone

Perfect for a shady spot at the back of the border

The large cup-shaped, rosy-pink flowers of this Japanese anemone are a delight in the late summer and autumn garden. With centres filled with golden stamens the flowers are carried on strong slender stems up to 90cm (3ft) tall and never go unnoticed by bees and pollinating insects. The dark green leaves contrast the flowers beautifully. A lovely plant to extend the season and a great colour to mix with asters and sedums.

Plant in semi-shade or shade in beds and borders. Ideal under the dappled shade of deciduous trees. A good companion to other perennials to extend the season.

Any reasonably fertile soil that is not too dry. Cut back flower stems and dead leaves in winter. Needs no support.

The poppy-like flowers of Japanese anemones often depict the Christmas rose on greetings cards
