Agapanthus Brilliant Blue

African Lily

Large deep blue late summer blooms

A very compact Agapanthus giving a late summer display of globe-shaped flower heads of dazzling blue, with a stripe of deeper blue through each petal. The clumps of narrow, strappy leaves die back in winter and emerge again in spring.

Where?

Best in a sunny, sheltered spot, ideal for a container, or planting en masse in a border or at the foot of a wall.

How?

Happiest in a well drained soil that doesn't get waterlogged. Place some coarse grit in the base of the planting hole if your soil is heavy and wet in winter. Use a good quality general purpose compost for container growing and raise the pot on 'pot feet' through the winter months to help with drainage.

Agapanthus often flower more when the roots are constricted. Which makes it perfect for a container.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.

Planting site Coastal or drought resistant, Gravel garden, Patio container, Mediterranean garden, Flower border and beds
