Thuja plicata Goldy

white cedar '4ever Goldy'

Stunning bright golden foliage

A fabulous new variety of western red cedar forming a flame shaped plant, eventually up to 4m (13ft) or more in height. The flattened sprays of shining evergreen foliage are rich golden yellow, far brighter than other varieties. The colour is even more intense in winter and can take on orange tones when temperatures are low enough. An excellent focal point in the garden and a stunning contrast to dark evergreens.

Where?

Plant in full sun or partial shade in beds and borders. A striking specimen plant that is also excellent for hedging and screening.

How?

Any well-drained fertile soil that is not too dry. To use as a hedge plant 90cm (3ft) apart. No pruning is necessary, but the plants can be trimmed in spring or late summer to encourage denser growth or restrict height.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
