Thuja occidentalis Holmstrup

Provides architectural interest all year long

A neat growing conifer with smoky green leaves throughout the year. This plant is very well behaved and keeps its narrow, columnar shape with hardly any trimming required.

Happiest in a sunny spot in a border, as a low hedge or in a large container.

Use good quality loam based compost for container growing and raise the pot on pot feet through the winter months to help with the drainage. Enrich the soil by adding organic matter before planting - homemade garden compost or well rotted manure is fine for this. Water occasionally in dry weather until your plant is established.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
