Compact form perfect for hedging

An excellent fast-growing conifer which forms a flame-shaped plant up to 3m (10ft) or more in a few years. The flattened sprays of aromatic foliage are bright gold, and arranged at varying angles giving great texture, especially in winter. A good focal point for any garden it can be trimmed to a more formal shape and makes an excellent dense hedge.  

Where?

Plant in full sun or partial shade in beds and borders. A striking specimen plant that is also excellent for hedging and screening.

How?

Any well-drained fertile soil. To use as a hedge plant 90cm (3ft) apart. No pruning is necessary, but the plants can be trimmed in spring to encourage denser growth or restrict height.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
