Japanese White Pine

Great blue/green foliage

An eye-catching evergreen which is slow growing at first but will eventually make a large tree. The blue-grey needles have a white stripe and twist on the ends of the branches, giving a graceful look that will stand out in your garden year round and especially in winter.

Where?

Give this oriental beauty space at the back of a border or plant it as a feature in a lawn or at the end of a path. Best in a sunny spot.

How?

Happy in a fertile, well-drained soil that is not waterlogged in winter. Add goodness to the soil by digging in planting compost. Water occasionally in dry spells to keep this plant looking its best.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
