Picea pungens Koster

Colorado Blue Spruce

Medium sized tree with blue/green foliage

An evergreen that's a striking steel grey colour, this beautiful conifer will light up your garden through the year. The young growth on the tips of the branches are metallic blue in spring and mature to steel grey through the summer.

Where?

Eventually making a small tree, this conifer is slow growing when young and should be given pride of place as a focal point in a sunny border where it will make a great contrast to other plants.

How?

Any good, well drained soil is fine. Add goodness to the soil by digging in planting compost. Water occasionally in dry spells to keep this plant looking its best.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
