Colorado Blue Spruce

Stunning silver/blue foliage

A real stunner for a border where the steel-blue needle-like leaves will light up the garden. Soft young spring growth is aluminium grey in colour. This charming conifer makes a neat, formal shape, and will eventually grow into a small evergreen tree.

Where?

Plant in full sun for the best needle colour - a great choice as a focal point at the end of a path or in a mixed border with Heathers and low growing shrubs.

How?

Happy in any well drained soil, add goodness to the soil by digging in planting compost. Water occasionally in dry spells to keep this plant looking its best.

This Colorado spruce has its roots in the US and originated in the Rocky Mountains.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
