Juniperus conferta All Gold

Creeping juniper

A striking spreading juniper growing to around 45m (18ins) in height with a spread of 90cm (3ft). Not as ground hugging as some junipers of this type and with a lighter, airier habit. The sparkling, needle-like foliage is bright golden-yellow, even more brilliant in spring and turning orange-pink in winter. It combines well with more ground hugging varieties and is ideal in areas that are difficult to cultivate where all-year round colour and interest is needed.

Plant in full sun at the front of wide beds and borders, on rock banks, to soften the edges of paving or in gravel.

Any well drained soil. Drought tolerant once established and very hardy. Prune stems selectively to control spread.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
