Juniperus chinensis Expansa Variegata

Chinese Juniper

Ground hugging with white flecked foliage

This juniper forms a lush green carpet with some leaves irregularly splashed with creamy white. It is a dense ground hugger retaining its prickly leaves throughout the year.

Perfect as a ground cover plant in sun or light shade, sheltered from cold winds. Also great on a rock garden, and versatile enough to be grown as bonsai.

Happy in any well-drained soil and able to cope with drought once established. Unhappy in waterlogged soils. Use a good quality potting compost for container growing.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
