Juniperus chinensis Blue Alps

Chinese Juniper

Arching habit and grey/green foliage

This robust, slow growing evergreen has an upright, branching habit. Its blue-green leaves often have a slight silvery sheen and the new shoots delicately weep at the tips.

Loves an open, sheltered sunny spot. It makes a lovely focal point in a bed or border.

Happy in any well-drained soil and able to cope with drought once established. Unhappy in waterlogged soils. Use a good quality potting compost for container growing.

Chinese junipers are perfect subjects for the ancient art of bonsai.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
