Juniperus × pfitzeriana Daub's Frosted

juniper 'Daub's Frosted'

Ground cover plant offer year round interest

A low, spreading juniper growing to 45cm (18ins) with a spread of 1.5m (5ft) in a few years. The slightly pendulous tips of the foliage are frosted with gold and an attractive shade of blue green beneath. Purple fruits become paler as the season progresses. Graceful, slightly arched, spreading branches make excellent ground cover and are good at hiding eyesores at ground level.

Where?

Plant in full sun or semi-shade at the front of beds and borders. Good to soften the edges of paving, on banks and in gravel. Use as ground cover with cotoneaster, vinca, euonymus, erica and other prostrate conifer varieties.

How?

Any well-drained soil that is not waterlogged. Grows well on alkaline soils including chalk. Can be selectively pruned in spring to control height and spread.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
