Cryptomeria japonica Golden Promise

GardenAward

Japanese Cedar

Dense round dwarf form with golden foliage

A versatile, small conifer forming a soft fuzzy ball of golden yellow leaves becoming tinged with bronzy purple in the autumn.

Where?

Happy in full sun or partial shade, 'Golden Promise' will brighten up a dull corner of the garden, and is great as a focal point in a rock garden. It can also be grown in containers, or planted in shrub borders where it will shine against a dark background.

How?

Happy in any well-drained soil and able to cope with drought once established. Unhappy in waterlogged soils. Use a good quality potting compost for container growing.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
