Chamaecyparis thyoides Rubicon

White Cedar

Dwarf upright conical shape with blue/green foliage

A small conifer forming a dense, upright, cone shape. The blue-green, needle-like leaves take on attractive hints of plum-purple in colder weather.

Where?

Perfect for a sunny rock or gravel garden, this colourful conifer grows well in full sun or partial shade. It is slow growing which means it makes a great container plant.

How?

Happy in any well-drained soil and able to cope with drought once established. Unhappy in waterlogged soils. Use a good quality potting compost for container growing.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
