Chamaecyparis pisifera Sungold

GardenAward

Sawara Cypress

Dwarf weeping habit with golden foliage

A lovely small conifer with a relaxed habit and thread-like, lime-green and gold, leaves that hold their brilliant colour all year.

Where?

'Sungold' as the name suggests, loves a spot in full sun. It grows very slowly so makes a superb plant for a container or as a focal point in a rock or gravel garden.

How?

Happy in any well-drained soil and able to cope with drought once established. Unhappy in waterlogged soils. Use a good quality potting compost for container growing.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
