Chamaecyparis lawsoniana Ivonne

Lawson's Cypress

Tight conical form with golden foliage

One of the best golden conifers with an upright, conical shape and soft bright yellow leaves throughout the year.

Where?

Loves an open, sheltered sunny spot. This slow growing conifer is hardy and makes a lovely focal point in a bed or border. Looks fabulous against a dark green background.

How?

Happy in any well-drained soil and able to cope with drought once established. Unhappy in waterlogged soils. Use a good quality potting compost for container growing.

Lawson's cypress all originate from seed collected in Oregon and California, USA and sent to Lawson Nursery near Edinburgh in Scotland in 1854. The modern cultivars spring from these plants.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
