Vitis Regent

Grape 'Regent'

Delicious fruit produced early

An excellent grape vine; popular in many UK vineyards for its early, heavy crops of excellent wine grapes. Climbing by tendrils grape vines make attractive climbers with their tan coloured stems and fresh green vine leaves. This one produces large clusters of deep red fruits which are large, juicy and sweet enough in a good summer to be eaten as table grapes. They make excellent wine, especially if left on the vines long enough to develop their sugars.

Plant in full sun to grow over a pergola, archway or loggia. Good trained on a wall or fence.

Any well-drained fertile soil; particularly good on chalk. Plant 45cm (18ins) away from a wall or fence. Prune as soon as the leaves fall in late autumn. Never cut after mid-winter.

Leaves can be cooked and used for stuffed vine leaves; fruits for wine or as table grapes

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot at least 15cm away from the wall, fence or support. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant – along with its supporting cane in the hole, leaning onto the support, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Arrange and tie the stems onto the support. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.

Planting site Ideal for walls & trellis & arches & pergolas
