Lonicera japonica Cream Cascade

Honeysuckle

Vigorous variety with masses of cream flowers

Bright-green leaves provide a glorious backdrop for the many fragrant trumpets of white flowers that cover this vigorous honeysuckle in summer. The flowers are vanilla scented, particularly at night.

Where?

This honeysuckle is happy in a sheltered spot in either sun or part shade, and makes a colourful feature trained up a trellis or cascading over walls and fences. A lovely plant for a patio or terrace and the birds will love the berries.

How?

Loves rich, moist but well-drained soil. Mulch with compost in early spring.

Honeysuckles may also be grown as ground cover plants on sunny banks and borders.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot at least 15cm away from the wall, fence or support. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant – along with its supporting cane in the hole, leaning onto the support, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Arrange and tie the stems onto the support. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
