Jasminum officinale Clotted Cream

PollinatorAward

Jasmine

New variety with even more scent

The name perfectly describes the large clusters of flowers that have a wonderful clotted cream colour. The dark green leaves help to emphasis the flowers. In the evening the flowers release a delicious fragrance, making it a superb addition to the patio.

Where?

Requires full sun to partial shade. It looks lovely if it is trained on a trellis in a cottage garden, or in a large patio container placed near a door where the scent can be enjoyed.

How?

Prefers fertile, well-drained soil and a sheltered position.

Officinale is derived from the Latin meaning ‘of the shop’. Its oils are extracted for the making of perfumes and in aromatherapy.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot at least 15cm away from the wall, fence or support. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant – along with its supporting cane in the hole, leaning onto the support, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Arrange and tie the stems onto the support. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
