Climbing wall shrub with stunning yellow flowers

A vigorous evergreen shrub from California with thick, dark green leaves and large yellow flowers from spring to early autumn. These have dark yellow centres and can fade to orange as they age. The climber has distinctive three-lobed leaves and woody stems. Both the silvery underside of the leaves and the young shoots are covered in down. It can reach heights of twenty four feet.


Place is a sheltered, sunny location facing south or west where it can be trained up a wall or along a fence or trellis.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
