Clematis Bourbon Evipo018

Compact form with a double flush of amazing flowers

“Bourbon” is a compact, dwarf, deciduous, climbing perennial, which produces large flowers which are a striking red with bright purple bars across the centre of each petal and golden-yellow stamens that look spectacular on the green vines. A second flush of blooms is produced in late summer.

Plant in patio containers, train to climb up a trellis, along a wall, fence or arbour.

Best in moist well drained soil in full sun. In the first year after planting prune back hard to approximately one foot above ground level leaving two or three healthy buds. On established plants prune back to approximately five feet in the winter or early spring before the plant starts to grow then again lightly just after flowering to encourage a second flush of flowers.

Specially hybridized for patio containers. This plant was bred by Raymond Evison. Pruning Group 2.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot at least 15cm away from the wall, fence or support. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant – along with its supporting cane in the hole, leaning onto the support. The top of the rootball needs to be 8cm below the level of the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Arrange and tie the stems onto the support. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year. Mulch with bark chippings or stones to keep the roots cool.
