Ampelopsis brevipedunculata Elegans

Variegated porcelain berry vine

Unusual foliage and decorative berries

A slow growing climber with scrambling stems and attractive hop-like leaves, heavily mottled with white and tinged with pink. The leaf stalks and tendrils are also pink, adding to the overall effect. Small blue fruits appear on mature plants from late summer. Colourful leaves make this perfect for the small garden where space is limited.

A sheltered wall or fence in sun or semi-shade. Perfect for a pot or container on an obelisk or left to cascade naturally.

Any well-drained soil; use a loam-based compost in a pot. No pruning required. Support on wires or trellis if growing against a wall or fence.

Great for an oriental effect in a glazed pot or container

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot at least 15cm away from the wall, fence or support. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant – along with its supporting cane in the hole, leaning onto the support, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Arrange and tie the stems onto the support. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
