Actinidia kolomikta

Unique multi-coloured leaves

A climbing plant with striking green, pink and creamy white leaves that look like they have been dipped in paint. This is a vigorous plant that will quickly cover walls, fences and trellises and makes an excellent screen. It looses it leaves in winter, when the vines can be cut back to form a clear framework.

Prefers a position in full sun or partial shade.

This plant is hardy and easy to grow and is not fussy about soil type. It will appreciate a covering of well-rotted compost and leaf mould around its base in autumn.

This Actinidia isn't usually grown for its fruit in the garden but is closely related to A. deliciosa the Kiwi Fruit.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot at least 15cm away from the wall, fence or support. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant – along with its supporting cane in the hole, leaning onto the support, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Arrange and tie the stems onto the support. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
