Chinese fountain bamboo

Ideal for a small garden

A hardy, easy to grow bamboo with upright but arching canes and bright green leaves throughout the year. It is compact in habit and remains in a clump, so is ideal for smaller gardens. The canes are bright green at first, contrasting with the papery older canes, creating an attractive two-tone effect.

Where?

Plant in full sun or shade in beds and borders. A good boundary and screening plant. Excellent as a stand-alone specimen or in a large pot.

How?

Any well drained, reasonably moist soil. Remove any old papery canes to maintain a tidy appearance and cut off the lower side shoots to display canes.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
