Fargesia robusta Pingwu

Bamboo

Decorative, non invasive clump forming variety

An impressive, hardy bamboo that produces arching stems with narrow green leaves that whisper in the gentlest of breezes. This plant will in time form large clumps that do not spread aggressively.

Where?

It prefers growing in full sun or partial shade and will make an ideal screen.

How?

Plant in any rich, moist, well-drained soil. It is ideal for growing in a container. Water it regularly to keep healthy and the leaves fresh. Bamboo's look great near water or in a woodland setting. If you want to restrict the spread of the roots use a rigid non-perishable membrane sunk into the soil.

A popular bamboo with origins in China and Vietnam.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.

Planting site City garden, Courtyard garden, Patio container, Garden edging
