Lithodora diffusa

Purple Gromwell

Great rock garden plant

Price 1 Litre Pots £3.99 Each - 3 for £10

This low growing evergreen shrub makes a mat of small hairy leaves which in spring and summer are covered with flowers, in an intense shade of midnight blue. It really stands out from a distance.

Where?

A sunny location is best in a gravel or rock garden. It is equally at home mixed with other plants in a patio container.

How?

Plant in well-drained sandy soil, place some coarse grit or sand in the base of the planting hole if your soil is heavy and wet in winter. Use a good quality compost for container growing and raise the pot on 'pot feet' through the winter months to help with drainage.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
