A delightful mat forming perennial with a mass of small, rounded, bright green leaves that remain attractive throughout the year in most gardens. In summer dark blue fluted buds open to reveal upward facing bell-shaped sapphire flowers; an eye-catching display that lasts for several weeks. This is an easy and versatile plant to grow that will fit into any garden, however small. Ideal for combining with other rockery plants such as arabis and aubretia where it will start flowering after thy have gone over.


Plant in full sun or semi shade at the front of borders, on rockeries, low walls, in gaps in paving or in gravel. Also excellent for pots and containers.


Any well drained soil or good growing medium. Clip off faded flowerheads to promote new growth after flowering. Remove any dead growth in winter. May die back to ground in winter in cold areas.

Campanula flowers are very attractive to bees and pollinating insects

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
